We are located west of Airdrie about 40 minutes north of Calgary, Alberta city limits. My husband and I are the third generation to farm here on this piece of land and are proud to be raising the fourth. Jeremy and I started out in commercial cow/calf pairs, doing a small amount of gate to plate sales. After a few years of having our cattle and our family expanding we saw the need to change our operation. We wanted something that the kids and I could help and be more a part of with the potential to manage on our own. We feel it is important for our children to know and understand where their food comes from and how important family farms are. This was the beginning of our sheep adventure, the cows where sold and a flock of ewes purchased.
We had been running 140 head of ewes and have just recently reduced to 70 head to enable us to take time to enjoy our young family. In the spring of 2015 we built a new lambing barn followed with seeding of a new pasture land and all new holding pens. In the fall of 2015 we invested in new handling equipment that meets the Alberta governments animal welfare standards making the handling of our animals as stress free as possible.
We have also completed the On Farm Food Safety (OFFS) program. This program is managed by the Canadian Sheep Federation, and is a voluntary program that was developed through a partnership between producers, industry and government personnel from across Canada. The program identifies and addresses potential food safety challenges facing the sheep producer.
Our education is ongoing and we continually seek out new ideas and better ways of doing things.
I'm about half way through my lamb, so don't need any presently. BUT you MUST keep me on your list. You gave me the best lamb we have ever had - every cut is tender, full of flavor. We have really enjoyed it, and I will certainly get more once we've eaten our way through the present lot.
"Just picked up the lamb.
The guy was awesome & he mentioned he saw your lambs at both ends and commented on what lovely they were. He was very impressed by them both pre and post slaughter"
